Christmas in the Castle

I know I've mentioned this before, but if you are in the area and haven't checked out Glencairn castle in Bryn Athyn, you really should try to get down there.  It is quite an experience to see a medieval style castle, built using tradition methods and housing so many ancient artifacts so close to home.

We went down today for their home school days, which are always great because of the special pricing to get in and the great tours.  Since it was raining, Christian was able to take off work and head down with us.  Yay!

It's crazy to think that this was actually the Pitcairn's home.  But I guess with 9 kids and 55 grandchildren they needed a castle for those big Christmas dinners.   Hide and seek must have been awfully fun back in the day!

  1. Great pictures, Christy! Who are all of those grown-up kiddos on the sofa...and where's your little baby?? If you think that the kids would like it, I could see if my cousin (one of the 55 grandchildren) is available the next time you visit there, and she could tell them stories about what they did at Glencairn growing up. She'd probably love it, if the kids would!

Merry Christmas to all of you!

  2. Thank you so much for your endorsement of Glencairn Museum and the Homeschool Days, Christy! I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed it. Love the pictures.
Our next Homeschool Day is Wednesday April 29, 9:30-12:30. It will feature a live glassblower from the Renaissance Faire, a tour of authentic Medieval Glass, a hands-on activity and a trip to the Tower to see the countryside in spring beauty.
In the meantime, gather some families together and come for our Castle Tour. We dress you as medieval pilgrims and take you back to the 1200s to meet Castle people. The description of this programs and others are on the Education page of our website: www.glencairnmuseum.org. Call me for a reservation.
